All that Matters

This is a poem about a little girl

Who wrote a poem about her life on white paper

She had a hamster

She liked the boy next door

and she had a lot of toys

More than she knew how to play with

It was a poem about good times

And the teacher have her an “A” and a gold star

And her mother hung the poem up on the fridge

And she was happy

And that’s all that matters

This is a poem about a young lady

Who wrote a story about her life on grey paper

Her hamster ran away

The boy next door liked her friend

and she had a lot of toys

More than she knew what to do with

It was a poem about sad times

And the teacher gave her an “A” and a long stare

And her mother never hung it up

because she never showed it to her

And she was sad

And that’s all that matters

This is a poem about a woman

Who wrote a letter about her life on a brown paper bag

Her hamster died

The boy next door was married with kids

And she had a lot of toys

More than she wanted to deal with

It was a poem about death

And it never made it to a teacher or her mother

But she hung it up on her bathroom door

‘cuz she couldn’t make it to the fridge

She slit her wrists

and she was dead

And nothing else matters

And that’s all that matters…

All that matters
